Unlad Kabuhayan Expo and Summit Meeting.



Last Sunday, August 25 2013, we been joined in Unlad Kabuhayan Inc. meeting that our Beloved Church of Christ Executive Minister‘s called for all the brethren of different locale, this was held at the Iglesia Ni Cristo house of worship, Locale of Evangelista the new District Office of Metro Manila South which answered by the brethren from different locale by coming and joining the Special meeting.



This meeting was in preparation for the coming Unlad Kabuhayan Expo and Summit that will be held at SMX Convention Center, Mall Of Asia, Pasay City on Nov. 1-2, 2013.



Among the speaker of the Special meeting are, Bro. Abel Roman who explained about Program Objective of the said Event.



Then, followed by, Bro. Julius Rosete. talk about "Balik Tanaw" or "Looking Back" what happened and the success of the past unlad kabuhayan summit that has been held at World Trade Center, how the attendees improved their business and life, now has their own business, other are become a mentor, who is now helping other to start their own business. And also the last event become a meeting place to the family, met their old friend and gather together at the event.



And the third is Sis. Gigi Anne m. Lapira who talk about the coming Unlad Kabuhayan, some information about the cost of the event, how much the rent on the booth and other things that the attendees/exhibitor will really impress to join in Unlad Expo,  she expect More attendees/exhibitor than last year Unlad event. That’s why they choose much bigger place to accommodate the large number of attendees/exhibitor and supporters.



The Unlad Expo is not only to introduce a business brand of the brethren and Exhibitor but also teach those who want to have their own business, there is a continues seminar for those who want to learn, it's in the 2nd floor of SMX, this event really can help for all the brethren and to others who are business minded.



And the last is the Minister/EMCEE he say, this event Unlad Kabuhayan Expo was created by our Executive Minister to direct the brethren in the right path, like the teaching of God, "This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go" (Is. 48:17)  this is also the aim of the Executed Minister that all brethren improve their life.



The event also teaching us to shared what we had to those in needs, "Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need" (Ephesians 4:28)



And also we will not be at burden for others, as the bible say, “nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you”. (2 Thessalonians 3:8)



The Executive Minister really cares for the brethren that he wants to improve their life and not be a burden for other.



Unlad Kabuhayan Inc. is a non government organization with long term sustainable livelihood program which aims to equip every Filipino with tools to ultimately fight poverty and sustain his growth thereafter. The cycle of sustainability will be supported by the mentorship concept all individual who will enter the program and eventually succeed should go back to the program as a mentor and help back more individuals who will also duplicate the same process. Lead poisoning, how we can protect our child.



Now a day, many NGO ( non government organization) campaign the use of lead in many product, they urge the business sector to stop selling, producing and importing product or material with lead content also the consumer, they warned them to buy not product with lead content.

What is lead, where it can be use and how it effect to the health of the person and how we can avoid it?

 

Lead is a chemical element in the carbon group with symbol Pb (from Latin: plumbum) and atomic number 82. Lead is a soft and malleable metal, which is regarded as a heavy metal and poor metal. Metallic. It has a bluish-white color after being freshly cut, but it soon tarnishes to a dull grayish color when exposed to air. Lead has a shiny chrome-silver luster when it is melted into a liquid.

 

Some use of Lead.

  • Lead's high density makes it useful as a shield against X-ray and gamma-ray radiation and is used in X-ray machines and nuclear reactors. 

  • Lead is also used as a covering on some wires and cables to protect them from corrosion, as a material to absorb vibrations and sounds

  • Lead also use in the manufacture of ammunition. Like bullet.

  • Lead is used to make some types of glass, such as lead crystal and flint glass,

 

This is just a few of a many use of lead. It is a useful and common metal that has been used by thousands of years. It is very dangerous poison, especially for children, when it is accidentally inhaled or ingested, they are most at risk for lead injuries because their young bodies are still developing and they tend to hold anything then put it in their mouth.

 

That’s why the NGO monitored the toys and product for children like baby bottle that recently found that some of this has a lead content.

 

Lead can have many adverse effects on our health. It poisoning affects every system in the body without noticeable symptoms for children and adults.

 

Possible effects can include: stunted growth; reduced attention span; learning disabilities; reduced Intelligence Quotient (IQ); damage to hearing; and behavioral issues. Nervous system damage, Speech and language impairment, Decreased muscle growth, Decreased bone growth and Kidney damage.

 

Adult's body is much larger than a child's body, more lead is needed to cause injury, but the harm that lead can do to an adult is very serious such as; Fertility problems in both men and women, High blood pressure, Digestive issues, Nerve disorders, Memory and concentration problems, Muscle and joint pain.

 

Some well-known product which has a lead content is cigarette and paint that we usually inhale in everywhere.

 

How we can avoid this, as for us we know what to do, there is a lot of information about lead that we can read, some advices we can follow but for kids and children we should guide them and protect them from this lead hazard.

 

Here are some tips how we can protect them.

  • Blood lead testing: The only way to know, if your child is lead-poisoned, is by getting him or her blood lead test.

  • Check your house for lead hazards: Conduct routine check of your house looking for lead hazards. Contact a professional to do the task. Like paint inspector, he can tells you the lead content of every different type of painted surface in your home, he also tells you what actions to take to address these hazards. If you want to remodel your home, have qualified professionals to do it, such as re-painting, there are standards that professionals know to ensure work with leaded paint is done safely, reliably, and effectively.

  • Reduce the dust levels in your home: Use a door mat to remove dirt from shoes before taking them off. Take off your shoes before going into your home. 

  • Toys Frequently wash toys, pacifiers, stuffed animals and other objects young children put in their mouths.

  • Healthy eating: Wash your hand before every meal and snack. Keep children from eating and chewing on non-food items such as paint chips, window sills, and dirt. Eat foods high in calcium, Vitamin C and iron. Good nutrition helps prevent the body from absorbing lead. Check the label that has been shown to contain lead, and avoid that product.

  • Buying Food and Material Product. Don’t buy food product or material product that known to lead content, usually this product comes from cheap store and very affordable price.

 

Be informative there is a lot of information about lead hazard by this we can learn to avoid it.

Kids on Social Media, how can we monitor them.



The knowledge of man become wider and wider, the technology continued to modernization, the mind of man filled with things in this world on how to do new thing, what is to invent in the near future.



Today computer device are highly use, this are not for adult only, our young child also exposed in using computer. Not like us we know what we get in the internet, but the young one is not, they only knew is it is good feeling when you touch the high-tech computer.



When I first learned about the computer, I was wonder, in this computer you can learned everything, in just a tip of your finger you reach the world, it was a happy feeling that I first touch the computer keypad and began to play the game in it, I become curious in the net, then I surf and surf, I didn’t learned computer in the school, I learned it in the office, after office I open the computer then I play and surf because its prohibited to play during office hour. It’s a good feeling if you get the extra ordinary thing like computer at that old days, but now it’s not extra ordinary anymore.



Other kids is like me when I first learned the computer, today computer has many application now, many site that is not appropriate to our child, a highly informative, highly dangerous too for them. They can learn good thing, also a bad thing. Sometime, they get their action in the computer, we can’t blame them at their age they are still exploring, what we do is, monitor them, computer are very useful, others can’t live without this technology,




How to monitor our kids engaging in social media?



  • In facebook let’s add them as friend, in this way we can know their activity, their friend, their post, we can interact to them in chatting, by this also they become aware of their moves because they know you are watching.

  • In twitter we can do the same be follower of him or her, and any other social media, if you want to hide your identity you can change your name in this way you can monitor their activity without their knowledge.

  • One of my niece was leaving with me, he like to surf in the net, he is about 12 years old, I was wondered because there is a time when he use the computer he closed the door of computer room, what I do is, I open his computer, in computer, there is a archive that all the site you opened was store there, it is the history folder, I open it and I saw there is a porn site, further more when I open his video there is a unpleasant video of him. I didn’t confront him, I just delete the video and reset the history, it’s enough, when he find out what I do he will be aware of it already, the second time I do it, there no more like I found before.

  • Sometimes they become more knowledgeable in computer surfing, than us, you will amaze, how do they found it? it’s just, fine but they need guidance, sometime what they found in the web affect in their life, always check their laptop, the site they open if it not good, delete then explain to them about it. They are young like I say they are still exploring and this exploration affect their life, bad or good defend on how we guide them.



We become more and more modern, our tools become sophisticated, it became dangerous too, and it can ruin your life and change your life. Let’s use these modern tools for good, still leaving with God. He allowed everything not to forget Him but to praise and remember Him.

Short tips on Dicision making.

A decision making is not easy you have to think it carefully, here is some simple tips to help you, in decision making.

 

1. A decision making arises from a clear need, from which you can build on your objective,

What is your need? you have to make sure if you need to do this or that and then your objective your aim that you must do it than the others.

 

I was on the way home but it’s too early, I said what shall I do at home, so, while I walking going to bus station my mind scrambling, what will I do, I go to mall to buy a shoe or going home but it too early, because the mall was still closed its about 2 hours before the mall is open, its playing in my mind and finally I decided,  I thought I need to buy shoe, so, I go to the mall and buy shoe, I need  it because, if I didn’t buy it now, I have no time to come back at the mall anymore, my time is limited. After I establish my need I decided to do it right now, that I have a time.

 

2. Make sure to gather data, fact and information pertaining to the matter you need to decide on.

Some point to know, and to consider, a data from this you can declare your right decision.

 

3. From having information that is fact based, you can now draw up your option.

You have to decide which thing you’re going to do first, of course the most important and needs.

 

4. In weighing your option, look at the practicability, impact, execution and most importantly, that sustainability of the option.

After examining the fact and data, it times to declare you decision.

Addiction: How can we change?

I don’t want to smoke anymore, I will stop my smoking, this is the word of smoker who is want to stop his addiction to cigarette, but after a few days of stopping, he started smoking again, and returned to his old habit. this is just one of many bad habit that we want to resist. but we have no power to continue our task to stop it, we become relapser.

Relapser is the one, who have a limited view in recovery, people with certain personality traits have higher than average relapse rates, those who regularly backslide had trouble expressing anger were perfectionist, blamed other for their problem, sometimes antisocial and thrill seekers, by their emotional distress, they going back to their habit when they feeling lonely or worried, other people are turning to substitute devices like artificial cigarette, other say it is not good, so, they going back to real cigarette again.

Relapse is an act or an instance of backsliding, worsening, or subsiding, to slip or fall back into a former worse state, it means, after stopping, they return again to their old habit, and they become worse than ever before.

Its really hard for a person to change, they need help and guidance to be able to do their task to change, How to take away the addiction or to any habit that you want to stop?

Here are some tips;
  • Make sure you are ready, it’s a commitment if you are not really willing to make a break you‘ll finds subtle ways to sabotage yourself.
  • Use Spiritual resources, it’s the best if you are ready, give yourself completely to God, it’s like turning away from sin, read God words, joined in Church that can change you, there is a saying "if your Religion can't changed you, change your Religion" or talk to the Church leader, and become active in Church activity.
  • Break it down, making change a day of a time, abstainer need to set a short term goal, at least three weeks to form a new habit, only, after you've reach your goal, and set another again until it gone.
  • Find what starts your craving (strong desire) keep a journal, record frequency duration, intensity of craving and what set you off? It will help you to prevent your craving.
  • Plan how you'll respond to a craving whether you are expecting it or not, at times an urge will break across you with the force of a tidal wave and you may easily succumb, so, you know ahead of time what defenses you will use when you feel your craving, do something walk, play a game, anything just to pass your craving, it is just 3 to 10 minutes then your craving has gone.
  • Adapt new habit, your emotional needs will not end automatically when your addiction does, to prevent falling back into your old habit, ask yourself what attracted you to the addiction in the first place and then set up alternative, if you go to bar with companion try to join in a volunteer group, want to do with your hand do some gardening and many more alternative.
  • Enlist other, join for a cause to help other who has the same case as your, let them learn from your experience.
  • Reward yourself, every time you passed in the temptation give something to yourself.
  • Don‘t give up, by monitoring your behavior and emotion you‘ll have a better chance of stopping the slide from temptation to release.
Hold on to God He say He will make all thing new” (rev 21:5) He can change you.
Have faith in God, ask God to help and guide you in your task, ask Him to give you a stronge desire to fight, resist your bad habit. it's impossible to man but it's possible to God.
